Hi Ian,

Cheers for the advice. I'm now using IE and Chrome on PC - IE only for those Microsoft products/sites that punish you for deviating from IE. I much prefer Chrome.

I still use Safari and Firefox on Mac, but Firefox is driving me slowly mad.

I'll sign up for the dev Chrome version - thanks again for the tip!

Well I use all three - IE8, Chrome & Safari across both Mac OSX (Safari) and Windows 7 (Chrome & IE8)

I prefer Chrome. Also if you subscribe to the Developer build you'll get the ability to keep bookmarks in sync across multiple machines. Don't ask why but I use 6 Windows 7 based systems and 2 Mac OSX machines - an iMAC & MacBook Pro. Keeping things in sync is important to me

Thanks JD. I've just signed up for the 'tell me when you might get around to doing Google Chrome for Mac' email alert.

And I've just discovered I have been using Google bookmarks for firefox (duh - and it makes sense, as like you, I've relinquished much of my online life to Google's control).

I did a quick search for Google Bookmarks on Safari and all the articles say things like 'There's never been an easy way to add Google bookmarks to Safari, until NOW' then go into about three hundred things you have to do to add them.

I had a rotten bad migraine last night, my capacity for adding stuff is limited to clicking a button that says 'add stuff'. No such luck on Safari.

I don't like the sound of those crashes :(

i hate to say it, but give chrome a go.

i use safari, have done ever since its first release - but again, i use autocomplete rather than the bookmark menu, and i keep any bookmarks i might need on another computer on google bookmarks, using a toolbar button on safari.

safari's worked well for me up til now, because it's fast and clean and simple and it starts up quickly - that's my main problem with firefox, it takes forever to open. but i think mac have dropped the ball with the new release, safari 4 - it seems less intuitive, because of stuff like moving the refresh button to the wrong side of the url bar. worse, it's much more crash-y than it was, which has all but made it useless for working - if i can't have 12 windows open without a crash, i can't research. the feature that restores each window that was open in the last session is no good without restoring the web history of each of those separate windows as well.

when google finally gets their os x chrome out, i'll be downloading it. just one more step on the way to google being responsible for absolutely everything in my life...

Thanks. I hadn't really considered the minimalist aesthetic in web browsers as important. I guess I'm firefoxed because I tend to look at Safari and go 'hmmm...there's something missing'. However, a browser that's stripped to the basics but allows me to add what I want is what I'm after.

It's funny how the main reason I'm considering Safari is because of the Safari showcase at WWDC where 5,000 geeks ooh'd and aah'd over each improvement.

Sounds like I really should give Google Chrome a go.

BTW following your Firefox memory glutton comment, I now have visions of a super-bloated Firefox exploding and killing my entire system ;)

I use Safari on my Mac - despite having Opera, Firefox on the device because, frankly, it does what I need in a minimalist interface. I collect my bookmarks but I never use the bookmark menu instead relying on autocomplete. It works for me.

I much prefer Google Chrome on Windows to any other browser. It has the Safari simplicity (and WebKit's excellent standards compliance) as well as speed and a decent UI. On Windows I quite like the dual-function location/search field. It works for me.

Are you doing it wrong? I doubt it :)

I don't like Firefox. I hate the way it gets sluggish quickly, bloats with stolen memory and then simply stops working without having the decency to just crash.
